Young Greatness was an American rapper from New Orleans. He was best known for the 2015 hit single “Moolah” which peaked at #85 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. His discography includes the mixtapes Rich & Famous (2012), Dollar For Hate (2014), I Tried To Tell Em (2015), and Bloody Summer (2017). He worked with the record label Quality Control Music and later Cash Money Records. Greatness was born Theodore Jones on September 19, 1984, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He moved from “The Big Easy” to Houston, Texas, following Hurricane Katrina’s wrath of 2005.

CAREER
Growing up, Greatness was exposed to the music of Jay Z, Biggie and Juvenile. He would eventually find his own sound. His early projects included Rich & Famous (2012), Trap Jumpin 2.0 (2013), and Dollar For Hate (2014). He caught the attention of Bun B and Mike Jones which led to a contract with Quality Control Music. Greatness began his rise with the mixtape I Tried To Tell Em (2015). The tape was supported by the singles “Moolah” and “Yeah” featuring Quavo. Moolah became his highest-charting single, peaking at #85 on the Billboard Hot 100. It spawned a remixed version featuring Lil Wayne and Yo Gotti. The official video has more than 30 million views on YouTube. In 2016, Greatness earned a spot on Rolling Stone’s top-10 list of artists that you need to know. His television debut followed in a July 2016 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Greatness closed out 2015 with the tape Seven (VII). It featured guest appearances from Maxx Pain, Magnolia Chop, and Johnny Cinco. The second installment of the ‘I Tried To Tell Em’ tape was released in July 2016. It was supported by the single “Ball.” Young Greatness left Quality Control Music for Cash Money Records in April 2017. His last mixtape, Bloody Summer, was released in October 2017 by Mile High Music Group. It included tracks like “Drugs & Money” and “Family” featuring Lil Duke.

Young Greatness died on October 29, 2018, at the age of 34. He was gunned down outside a Waffle House restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana. Law enforcement officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
