ORIGIN
Nicolas Sales is a Mexican-American recording artist, producer, and songwriter. His discography includes Jupiter Saturday (2017), Petrichor (2017), Midnight Lo-Fi (2018), and Everything, All at Once (2016) with Lydia Rose Turino. He makes music within the genre of pop, hip-hop/rap, emo, alternative and lo-fi hip-hop. Sales produces hip hop and electronic music under the moniker Rosé. He’s worked with the likes of JameirKGolden and Eden Ivy among others. Sales was born on December 25, 1998, in Mexico City, Mexico. He moved to the United States at age 16. He settled in Viroqua, Wisconsin, where he attended Youth Initiative High School. Sales would eventually move to Berlin, Germany. He’s an Audio Engineering student at the SAE Institute.
CAREER
Sales was drawn to music as early as 8-year old. His interest peaked after his father introduced him to Pink Floyd’s album The Dark Side of the Moon (1973). Despite his newfound passion, it wasn’t until moving to the United States that he was able to make his dream a reality. Sales supported himself by working as a dishwasher at a local food cooperative. It provided the necessary funds to purchase equipment for his home recording studio. Sales taught himself everything from recording to audio engineering. He also dabbled in songwriting.
Sales released his debut full-length project, Everything, All At Once, in May 2016. It was a collaborative effort between him and his then-friend turned girlfriend Lydia Rose Turino. The album featured tracks like “Walking Sticks”, “Sweatshop Surgery” and “Strands of Time” featuring Eli Perry. It also included a cover of Keaton Henson’s “Small Hands.” Sales musical style ranges from lo-fi hip-hop to psychedelic pop. The self-proclaimed ‘One Man Band’ aims to bridge the gap between music genres. Merging styles and creating new sounds, he draws inspiration from the likes of Tame Impala and Pink Floyd.
Sales’ debut studio album, Jupiter Saturday, arrived in April 2017. The album was presented as his high school’s senior project. Sales closed out 2017 with the instrumental hip-hop album, Petrichor. He produced the entire album while staying in a dorm room in Ytterjärna, Sweden. Sales dropped his 8-tracked mixtape, Midnight Lo-Fi, in April 2018. It was supported by songs like “Dead Tired” and “Full Metal Jacket.” His follow-up 2018 projects were Longer Days, Sonder, and Ok.
The 8-track Dance/Electronic album, Visions, was released on Valentine’s Day 2019. It featured songs like “Ethos”, “Witch Hunt” and “Ghosts.” His new single “Time Of My Life” off the forthcoming album ‘Heartache’ premiered in May 2019. In addition to recording, Sales produces music under the name Rosé. He produced JameirKGolden’s debut mixtape, Death Will Follow Shortly (2018). He’s also produced for underground artists such as Prohibeo, Eden Ivy, and Lil Broken.
