Newport Savy is an American rapper from Virginia. Real name, Gary Williams, he was born on September 12, 1996, in Newport News, Virginia. He was formerly known as G.savage and Gmoney on his previous projects. Newport Savy grew up in a large family household and is the youngest of eight siblings. He was raised in the Warwick Lawns section of Timberwoods in Northern Newport News. On November 4, 2016, he dropped an official project titled “Timberwolves.” The mixtape title was dedicated to his neighborhood, Timberwoods, and depicted a mere play on words. Newport Savy’s most influential role models and icons from Virginia are Michael Vick, Missy Elliot, Pusha T, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Allen Iverson, Timbaland, and Pharrell.

CAREER
Newport Savy officially started experimenting with music as a 9th grader in high school. Growing up, the youngster recognized Meek Mill as an inspirational figure and drew influences from the Philadelphia rapper. In 2013, he bought his first low-budget microphone and started his musical journey to perfect his craft. Newport Savy grew up listening to various rappers and singers. His playlist featured the likes of Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, A Boogie, Chris Brown, Lil Durk, and Bryson Tiller. Currently, he is well-known for the popular singles “Mood Swings,” “I Can’t Wait,” “All I Think About,” and “I’ll Be Back.” His official mixtape “Timberwolves” was a pledge to his childhood neighborhood, Timberwoods.

Another rapper who had a major influence on Newport Savy’s development was A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. Both rappers share similar melodic sounds. In the music video “I Can’t Wait” featuring Davie Jones, his older brother who is also pursuing a career in music, Newport Savy describes being homeless and expresses eagerly a desire to achieve his dreams. Staying true to his roots, he uses music as a tool to shine a light on his early experiences. Bryant Wilder is a deceased childhood friend of Newport Savy whom he constantly mentions in songs; speaking on the impact of his death.

In early 2020, Newport Savy released the single “All Kinda Money.” As his career evolves, he is undoubtedly gaining more attention and expanding his fan base across the United States.
