Mike Colter is an American actor best known for his lead role in the Netflix web television series Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. He was born to parents Mr. and Mr.s Eddie Lee Colter Sr. on August 26, 1976, in Columbia, South Carolina. He’s the cousin of actress Viola Davis. Colter grew up in St. Matthews, South Carolina, where he attended Calhoun County High School. He earned a BA degree in theater at the University of South Carolina and an MFA degree in acting at Rutgers University.

CAREER
Colter was inspired to become an actor after watching the 1984 drama film, A Soldier’s Story. As a result, he became a member of his high school’s drama club and later its president. He was mentored by drama professor Scott Blanks at Benedict College and later by William Esper at the Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Colter made his television debut in 2002 in the series ‘ER’ and ‘The Parkers’. His first film role was that of “Big Willie Little” in Million Dollar Baby (2004) with Clint Eastwood. Other film appearances include Salt (2010) with Angelina Jolie, Men in Black 3 (2012) with Will Smith and Zero Dark Thirty (2012) with Jessica Chastain. Colter starred as “Malcolm Ward” in the Series Ringer, and as “Lemond Bishop” in The Good Wife. He also stars as “Luke Cage” in the Netflix series Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Colter is also known for his role as “Agent Jameson Locke” in the Halo franchise.
