Hugh Jackman is an Australian actor and producer. He’s best known for his role as “Wolverine” in the X-Men film franchise. His film credits include The Prestige, Van Helsing and Les Miserables. Hugh Michael Jackman was born on October 12, 1968 in Sydney, Australia. His parents Grace McNeil and Christopher Jackman divorced when he was 8. He has four siblings, Ralph, Zoe, Sonya and Ian. Jackman was raised by his father. He attended Knox Grammar School followed by the University of Technology in Sydney. He graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Jackman continued his studies at Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts. He graduated in 1994.

Jackman made his television debut in a 1994 episode of the series Law of the Land. He co-starred as “Kevin Jones” in the short lived ABC drama series Correlli (1995). He followed up with a recurring role as “Duncan Jones” in The Man from Snowy River (1996). Jackman’s early stage credits included Beauty and The Beast (1995) and Sunset Boulevard (1996). He portrayed “Curly McLain” in Oklahoma! (1998), and “Billy Bigelow” in Carousel (2002). He won a Tony Award in 2004 for his lead role in the Broadway play The Boy from Oz. His Broadway credits also include A Steady Rain (2009) and The River (2014).

Jackman made his film debut in the 1999 films ‘Erskineville Kings’ and ‘Paperback Hero’. He was cast as “Wolverine” in the superhero film, X-Men (2000). The film was directed by Bryan Singer and it also starred Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Halle Berry. The role of Wolverine was reprised multiple times including the films, The Last Stand (2006), Days of Future Past (2014) and Logan (2017). The X-Men films have grossed over $4 billion worldwide.

Jackman starred opposite Meg Ryan in the 2001 romantic-comedy ‘Kate & Leopold’. He held the lead role as “Jean Valjean” in Tom Hooper’s 2012 musical-drama, Les Miserables. His performance earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. Other notable films include The Prestige (2006) with Christian Bale, Australia (2008) with Nicole Kidman, and Prisoners (2013) with Jake Gyllenhaal. He’s done voice role for animated films like Happy Feet, Flushed Away, and Rise of the Guardians.
