Gretchen Carlson is an American television show host and former Miss America. She’s best known for hosting Fox and Friends, and The Real Story on the Fox News Channel. Carlson was born to parents Karen and Lee on June 21, 1966 in Anoka, Minnesota. She has three siblings. Her family owns a General Motors car dealership in Anoka. Carlson attended Anoka High School followed by Standford University. She graduated in 1990 with a sociology degree in organizational behavior.
CAREER
Growing up, Carlson excelled as a violinist. She performed with the Minnesota Orchestra and later the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. She won a number of competitions both locally and at the national level. She further pursued her love for music at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado. Carlson was named as one of the Anoka Homecoming attendants in 1984. She won the Miss Minnesota title in 1988 and was crowned Miss America in 1989.
Carlson started her career as an anchor and reporter for KXAS-TV in Dallas, Texas. She reported for WOIO-TV, WCPO-TV, and later WRIC-TV. Carlson became a CBS News correspondent in 2000. She co-anchored the Saturday Early Show alongside Russ Mitchell from 2002 to 2005. Carlson co-hosted Fox and Friends on the Fox News Channel from 2006 to 2013. She began hosting The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson in September 2013 until the end of her contract June 2016.
