Boosie Badazz is an American rapper, songwriter and music producer. He’s formerly known as Lil Boosie. His discography include Youngest of da Camp (2000), Superbad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz (2009), and Touch Down 2 Cause Hell (2015). He was locked up from 2009 to 2014 on drug charges. Lil Boosie was born Torrence Hatch Jr. on November 14, 1982 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His mother, Jacquelyn, is a retired teacher. His father passed away in 1997. He has a brother named Taguari. Boosie attended and was kicked out of McKinley High School. He reportedly completed his GED certificate in 2013.
Boosie began his hip-hop career under the guidance of Young Bleed and C-Loc. At age 14 he joined the collective ‘Concentration Camp’. He was the youngest member at the time. Boosie’s debut studio album, Youngest of da Camp, was released in January 2000 by Camp Life Entertainment. It featured production from Happy Perez, Russ Lee and C-Loc. Lil Boosie inked his first major label deal with Warner Bros. Records in January 2005. His third album, Bad Azz, followed in October 2006. The album sold 41,000 copies during opening week. It spawned the Billboard Hot 100 single “Zoom” featuring Yung Joc. Other releases on the Warner Bros. label include Superbad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz (2009), and Incarcerated (2010). Boosie’s highest charted single “Wipe Me Down” was released as part of the compilation album, Trill Entertainment Presents: Survival of the Fittest (2007). It peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on Hot Rap Songs chart. Boosie founded his own record label ‘Bad Azz Entertainment’ in 2009. The label was rebranded as ‘Bad Azz Music Syndicate’ in 2015.
Boosie was sentenced to 8 years at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in 2009 on drug related charges. He was acquitted of first degree murder in March 2012. He was released early from prison in March 2014. Lil Boosie adopted the new stage name “Boosie Badazz” a few months after his release. He also announced his record deal with Atlantic Records.
