Richard Anderson was an American television and film actor. He was best known for his role as ‘Oscar Goldman’ in the series Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. His film credits include Paths of Glory (1957), Seven Days in May (1964) and Seconds (1966). Anderson was born on August 8, 1926 in Long Branch, New Jersey. His parents were Olga and Harry. He had a brother named Robert. Anderson studied at the Actors’ Laboratory in Los Angeles, California. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Anderson became interested in acting after watching Gary Cooper in films. He was recruited by an MGM talent scout while he was performing at the Laguna Playhouse in Santa Barbara. He auditioned for MGM and was offered a 6-year contract. Anderson made his film debut in Twelve O’Clock High (1949). He appeared in MGM films like The magnificent Yankee (1950), Escape From Fort Bravo (1953), The Student Prince (1954) and Forbidden Planet (1956). He held a recurring role as “Ricardo Del Amo’ on the Disney series Zorro (1958-59). He appeared in the Fox film, Summer (1958). He played the character “Caleb Cornish” in the 1959 Broadway production of ‘The Highest Tree’.
Anderson guest starred as “Lt. Steve Drumm” in 20+ episodes of Perry Mason (1965-66). He starred as “Oscar Goldman” in The Six Million Dollar Man (1974-78) and The Bionic Woman (1976-78). The role of Oscar Goldman was reprised in the TV films, The Return of the Six-Million-Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (1987), Bionic Showdown (1989) and Bionic Ever After? (1994). Anderson’s television credits also include The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Gunsmoke, I Spy, Ironside, Hawaii Five-O, Dynasty and The Love Boat. He narrated the crime-drama series Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (1993-97). His film credits include Paths of Glory (1957) with Kirk Douglas, The Long, Hot Summer (1958) with Paul Newman, and Seven Days in May (1964) with Burt Lancaster.
