Qandeel Baloch was a Pakistani social media star, model and actress. She was born Fouzia Azeem on March 1, 1990 in Daska, Punjab. Her father is Muhammad Azeem and she grew up in the Punjabi town of Kot Addu. She studied at the University of the Punjab in Lahore.

Baloch first gained recognition through videos and photos posted to her Facebook page. She posted numerous videos on controversial topics and also videos highlighting her daily routine. Baloch gained further popularity in 2013 after she auditioned for the first season of Pakistan Idol. Her popularity and controversial personality drew comparisons to Kim Kardashian and Indian model Poonam Pandey. She also made the headline in June 2016 after she posted a selfie of her and cleric Mufti Abdul Qavi to her Instagram account.

Qandeel Baloch was murdered in her sleep on July 15, 2016 at the age of 26. She was strangled to death by her brother Waseem in a honor killing in Multan, Punjab. Apparently her brother didn’t approve of her lifestyle and the kind of pictures and videos that she was posting online. Baloch married her first husband when she was 17 years old and the two divorced a year later. Her second husband was Shahid Baloch. She was married to Aashiq Hussain from 2008 to 2010 and they had a son.
