Jimmy Wopo was an American rapper. He was know for tracks like “Elm Street”, “Walkn Bomb” and “Ayo”. His discography included the mixtapes, Woponese (2016), Jordan Kobe (2017), Back Against The Wall (2017) and Trapnese (2016) with Hardo. He was being managed by Taylor Maglin, co-founder of The Daily Loud. Wopo was born Travon Smart on January 13, 1997, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was raised in the Hill District. Growing up, he was interested in music and football. Wopo attended a handful of schools, including The Academy Charter School. He dropped out in the 10th grade to focus on his rap career.
Wopo grew up listening to artists like The Game, 50 Cent and Dipset. He later got into rappers like Chief Keef, Future and Meek Mill. Wopo started rapping as age 7 and began taking his rap game seriously at age 18. His music incorporate experiences from his own life. Wopo’s first notable track “Walkn Bomb” was released in June 2015. It attracted more than 1 million spins on SoundCloud. His debut mixtape, Woponese, followed in July 2016. It was led by the hit single “Elm Street” produced by Stevie B. The official video racked up 6+ million views on YouTube. Jimmy Wopo died on June 18, 2018, at the age of 21. He was one of two victims shot in a drive-by shooting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was hospitalized in critical condition but died shortly after. Wopo is survived by his daughter Aubrey. The second victim who remains unidentified is in stable condition. Prior to his death, Wopo was shot and wounded on two different occasions. He also had multiple drug convictions. In 2017, the young rapper was slapped with a 2-months prison sentence for violation his probation.
