Pierce met George Herbert Walker Bush at age 16. The two got married on January 6, 1945. They had six children together, George, Robin, Jeb, Neil, Marvin and Dorothy. The family spent most of their time in the state of Texas. In 1989, Bush succeeded Nancy Reagan as the First Lady of the United States. She held that office from January 20, 1989 to January 20, 1993.
