Gord Downie was a Canadian rock musician and lead singer for the rock band The Tragically Hip. His discography include Coke Machine Glow (2001), The Grand Bounce (2010) and Secret Path (2016). Downie co-founded the Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip in 1983. The current members are Paul Langlois (guitarist), Rob Baker (guitarist), Gord Sinclair (bassist) and Johnny Fay (drummer). They’ve released a total of 14 studio albums, 2 live albums and more than 50 singles. 9 of their albums have topped the Canadian Albums chart. They’ve won multiple accolades, including 16 Juno Awards. The Hip started out performing cover songs at local venues. They caught the attention of MCA Records who offered them a recording contract. His sophomore album, Battle of the Nudes, was released two years later by Rounder Records. Downie’s best performing solo album, Secret Path, was released in October 2016. It peaked at #4 on the Canadian Albums chart. His other projects include The Grand Bounce (2010) and Introduce Yourself (2017). He worked alongside The Sadies on the collaboration album, And the Conquering Sun (2014).
In addition to music, Downie was a writer and actor. He made a cameo appearance in the romantic-comedy, Men with Brooms (2002), starring Paul Gross. He was cast as a cop in Mike Clattenburg’s Trailer Park Boys: The Movie (2006). His credits include drama films Nothing Really Matters (2008) and One Week (2008).
