Clay Travis is an American sports journalist, radio host and author. He currently works as a television analyst for Fox Sports 1. He’s the founder of the college football website “Outkick The Coverage”. Travis was born Richard Clay Travis on April 6, 1979 in Nashville, Tennessee. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in history from George Washington University in 2001. He’s also a graduated of Vanderbilt University Law School.
After Law School Travis worked as an attorney in Tennessee and in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He garnered media attention in 2004 after he blogged about a 50-day pudding strike. He went on strike because he was unable to get NFL Sunday Ticket to watch the Tennessee Titans while he was staying in the Virgin Islands. Travis began working as a writer for CBS Sports in 2005. After he left the network he served as a writer/editor for the sports website ‘Deadspin’. He later served as a columnist for ‘FanHouse’ (now Sporting News). Travis was dubbed “Best Sports Radio Host We Love To Hate” by Nashville Scene in 2010. He co-hosted the sports radio talk show ‘3HL’ alongside Brent Dougherty and Blane Bishop. The program aired on 104.5 The Zone.
Travis founded the college football website ‘Outkick The Coverage’ in May 2011. It has since grown to thousands of daily visitors. Travis began his tenure at Fox Sports in 2014. He currently works on the network’s weekly college football Saturday pre-game show as well as their weekly SEC football show. His website Outkick was licensed under the Fox Sports umbrella in 2015.
