Gilman started out singing at the early age of 7. He was first discovered by record producer Ray Benson and in 2000 he was signed to Epic Records. Gilman’s debut single “One Voice” was released in May 2000. It peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and he won a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. His debut studio album, One Voice, followed closely in June 2000. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums and was certified 2x Platinum in the United States.
Gilman’s sophomore album, Dare to Dream, was released in May 2001. It was certified Gold by the RIAA and was led by the singles “Elisabeth” and “She’s My Girl”. Gilman was a contestant on season 11 of NBC’s The Voice. He competed as a member of Team Adam Levine. Gilman covered Adele‘s single “When We Were Young” in the blind audition. Later in the competition he performed “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson, “The Show Must Go On” by Queen, and “Anyway” by Martina McBride.
