Prince was a famous singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist, record producer and actor born out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He achieved international famed in the 1980s. Prince has reportedly changed his name four times throughout his lifetime. Prince Roger Nelson was born on June 7, 1958 to mother Mattie Della (a Jazz performer) and father John Nelson (a pianist). Though they separated throughout his youth, music had a major impact on Prince’s life. Prince later formed a music band with friends called Champagne which saw minimal success.
As a teenager, Prince began working on high quality tracks. At age 18, he signed a recording contract with Warner Brothers Record as the youngest producer. In recent years, Prince performed at the 2004 Grammy’s with Beyonce. That same year, he released the album Musicology which became very successful. The album rewarded him with 2 Grammys. In 2006, Prince was tossed back into the lime light with the release of “Song of the Heart” for animated film Happy Feet. As a result, he won a golden globe for it. Prince Rogers Nelson died on April 21, 2016 at the age of 57. His reported cause of death was an accidental overdose of fentanyl.. He was also being treated for flu-like symptoms prior to his death. He was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park compound in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Prince was married twice, first to Mayte Garcia (1996-2000), followed by Manuela Testolini (2001-2006).
