Michael Massee was an American actor. His film credits included ‘The Crow’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’. He was also known for the 1993 accidental shooting of Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow. Massee was born on August 16, 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was fluent in English and French. His father, Jack, was an educational planner for UNESCO. Massee attended Hunter College in New York City. He graduated with a BA degree in Theater and Writing.
Massee made his film debut in the 1991 romance-comedy My Father is Coming. He starred as “Funboy” in Alex Proyas’ film The Crow (1994). Massee had a small role in the film Seven (1995) starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Other early films included Tales from the Hood (1995), Lost Highway (1997) and Playing God (1997). Massee had a recurring role as “Ira Gaines” in the Fox series ’24’. He voiced the character “Spellbinder” from The Batman (2005) series, and “Bruce Banner” from the Ultimate Avengers (2006) series.
Masse was cast as the “Man in the Shadows” in The Amazing Spider-Man films. The two films were directed by Marc Webb and starred Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Massee portrayed “Charles Hoyt” in the TNT series Rizzoli & Isles (2010-13). His television credit also included The X-Files, Criminal Minds, Law & Order, Supernatural and the NBC miniseries Revelations.
