Maya DiRado is an American swimmer, Olympic gold medalist and business analyst. She was born to parents Marit and Ruben on April 5, 1993 in San Francisco, California. She has a younger sister named Sarah. DiRado attended Maria Carrillo High School followed by Stanford University. She graduated in 2014 with a degree in management science and engineering.
DiRado began swimming with the Santa Rosa Neptunes at the age of 6. She continued her swimming career at Maria Carrillo High where she excelled and broke a number of records. She won the California state championship three times for the 200 yard IM. DiRado had a successful college career with the Stanford Cardinals. She was ranked 3rd at the 2011 Division 1 NCAA Championships for the 400 yard IM. DiRado won individual titles for the 200 and 400 yard IM during her senior year. She was also named Pac-12 Swimmer of the Year.
After failing to qualify for the 2012 Olympics, DiRado shifted her focus towards the 2013 World Championships. She qualified and won gold for the 4×200 meter freestyle relay in Barcelona. She won gold and silver at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast, Australia. DiRado made her Summer Olympic debut at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. She won two Olympic gold medals, a silver and a bronze.
