Larry Drake was an American actor best know for his role on L.A. Law. He was born on February 21, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His father ‘Raymond’ was a drafting engineer and his mother ‘Lorraine’ was a homemaker. Larry attended the University of Oklahoma prior to his acting career. He originally wanted to become a teacher. Larry moved to Southern California in 1980 where he worked at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre.
Larry made his screen debut in the 1971 crime drama film, This Stuff’ll Kill Ya. His television debut was on a 1983 episode of American Playhouse titled “The Skin of Our Teeth”. Larry landed his breakout role in 1987 when he was cast in the television drama series, L.A. Law. He played the character “Benny Stulwicz”, a developmentally disabled man. He held the role from 1987-1994 and was awarded two consecutive Emmy Awards for best supporting actor. He revised the role of “Benny” in the 2002 television movie, L.A. Law: The Movie. Other notable film appearances include Dr. Giggles (1992), Darkman (1990), Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981), Bean (1997), Gryphon (2007), and the television series Prey, and Johnny Bravo.
Larry Drake died on March 17, 2016 at the age of 66. His reported cause of death was a rare form of blood cancer.. He was found dead in his Hollywood home. Larry was married to first wife “Ruth de Sosa” from 1989 to 1991 and briefly to second wife ‘Marina Drujko’ in 2009.
