Eddy Wally was a Belgian born singer, songwriter and producer. He was also know for his flashy and expensive taste in clothing. He was born Eduard Van De Walle on July 12, 1932 in Zelzate, Belgium. He started out as a handbag salesman before venturing into music.
Wally was discovered by the Dutch producer Johnny Hoes in the 1960s. His hit single “Chérie” was released in 1965 and ranked #1 on the Belgian charts for eight consecutive weeks. Other notable songs include “I’ll jump out of an aeroplane” and “Dans Mi Amor”. Wally had performed in various parts of the world including China, Australia, Europe and the United States. He made several guest appearance on the television program, Eurotrash. He was also the subject of an internet meme “Wow”.
Eddy Wally died on February 6, 2016 at the age of 83. His reported cause of death was stroke. He was staying in a Zelzate nursing home since 2011. The Flemish singer was released in January 2016 giving him time to say good bye to friends and family. He was married to Maria Roegiers.
