Chester Bennington was an American rock singer, songwriter and vocalist for the rock band Linkin Park. He was also associated with the bands ‘Dead by Sunrise’ and ‘Stone Temple Pilots’. His discography with Linkin Park includes Hybrid Theory (2000), Meteora (2003) and Minutes to Midnight (2007). Bennington was born on March 20, 1976 in Phoenix, Arizona. His mother, Susan, was a nurse, and his father, Lee, was a police officer. He had an half-brother, Brian, and two half-sisters. Bennington’s parents separated when he was about 11. He stayed with his father for a few years before moving in with his mom at age 17. He attended Centennial High, Greenway High and Washington High School. He also struggled with drug addiction as a child.
Bennington’s early music influences include bands like ‘Depeche Mode’ and ‘Stone Temple Pilots’. His professional singing debut was with the band Sean Dowdell and His Friends?. They released an eponymous cassette-tap in 1993. It featured only three songs. Bennington and Dowdell later formed the post-grunge band ‘Grey Daze’. They released three albums, Demo (1993), Wake/Me (1994) and No Sun Today (1997). Bennington left the group in 1998.

Bennington formed his own rock band ‘Dead by Sunrise’ in 2005. Their debut studio album, Out of Ashes, was released in October 2009. It was led by the singles “Crawl Back In”, “Let Down” and “Fire”. The group disbanded in 2011. Bennington also worked with the rock band Stone Temple Pilots. He was recruited in 2013 as a replacement for vocalist Scott Weiland. His close friend Chris Cornell also died of suicide by hanging earlier in 2017. Bennington had suffered numerous injuries throughout the life of his career. He sustained a broken wrist in 2007, a shoulder injury in 2011 and an ankle injury in 2015.
